Meet the Artist
My name is Emily Roy, I am an artist and an aspiring art therapist. I work in a variety of mediums creating nature-inspired work. I specialize in printmaking and oil painting and have presented my work in a variety of galleries and collectives. I also have a small business vending my art & selling my work in small shops across NH.
Sometimes life can feel like a rotten log, like the death of a once erect tree, fallen. We must be reminded to look closer and appreciate the tiny mycelium and moss growing from that rotten log. We need to peel back the bark to see the minute slugs and salamanders who seek solace there.
Mushrooms are the embodiment of rebirth & beauty that comes from death and decomposition. Themes of life from death embody good coming from bad & progress after hardship. These are important themes in my life and my future art therapist career. I often use upcycled materials across all my creative works as I find the rebirth of the old, beautiful.
I was incredibly fortunate as a child that my parents raised me in nature. We hiked on the weekends, played in the mud, and squished in moss. I grew up snowshoeing through tall pines, canoeing through lily pads, and crawling along the forest floor in search of mushrooms and creatures with my two wonderful parents and my dog. New Hampshire's forests have left their mark on my body of work. Through printmaking, painting, and mixed media, I shed light on what is often overlooked and to show that even among struggle there is life, color, and happiness if only we know where to look.
