Hiding in Sea and Sediment

Born from my roots in New Hampshire’s Forests and Water Bodies, Hiding In Sea and Sediment Highlights the minute life forms that are often overlooked. Through bright colors, dramatic textures, and a multitude of organic forms, I showcase the juxtaposition of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and the many organisms that live within them. My use of unnatural intense colors demands the attention that these life forms deserve, changing our perspective through a macro lens. This body of work beckons the viewer to reimagine how we experience nature, to look closely at the forest floor, or to peer deeply into a tide pool. Aspects of environmentalism and sustainability are common themes in all of my work, this series is no exception. The use of up cycled materials within this work brings new life not only to the material but also to the many life forms in this series. Fragments of waste encroach into the ecosystems depicting that humans have impeded on even the smallest of environments. As you experience the many aspects of this series you are forced to reimagine both the beauty and repellency residing in the overlooked.
